Wanderlust: n. -
the irresistibly strong desire to travel or wander.
As a youth
Nathanel Grey Thorne roamed the hills and forest around his home,
often spending days away.
The lore of the forest was planted deep within the boy. As he
grew older a merchant's caravan offered the opportunity to see the
lands beyond the place of his birth. His hunting skills earned
him a heavy purse and the journey taught him there was a lot more to
learn. There were some
unfortunate lessons as well, to defend the caravan he learned to
kill and he found there was a big difference between killing a deer
and killing a man.
Wanderlust guided his footsteps.
When the caravan
stopped in the cities there was spare time to explore the
cobblestone streets and towering buildings. Curiosity taught him there
were more ways than the front door to discover what lay behind the
guarded stone walls and iron fences of the city's elite. Now, some would consider him
a thief, but thieves had a nasty habit of taking things from the
places he delved into.
Nathanel never took a thing, you could say he barely
disturbed the dust on the floor as he passed. He was blessed with never
being caught; it would have been a cruel ending to story that wasn't
even out of the first chapter, yet. No, he had yet to be caught,
but being noticed was another matter.
